TOPIC: SOUND THE ALARM!
TEXT: JOEL 2:1-3
2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
Key Verse: “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand” (Joel 2:1).
MESSAGE:
Alarm devices were means of communication in ancient time. Local security officers and watchmen in charge of the security of communities usually blow trumpets and send alarms to make people aware of approaching danger, like war.
Alarms give audible or other kinds of signals to awake people to a problem or situation that requires urgent attention. There is no situation in human history that can be more terrible than God’s judgment coming upon unrepentant sinners.
Judgment Day is referred to as the day of the Lord. It is also described by Prophet Joel in our Bible passage as the day of thick darkness, clouds and gloominess.
As the watchmen in ancient days usually blew trumpets to warn the people of coming dangers, believers are given the responsibility to warn sinners to escape the judgment of God. The blood of sinners hangs on the necks of believers who fail to warn them. The time to warn sinners is now. Arise and sound the alarm.
Prayer: O God, help me to always warn sinners around me so that they can escape Your judgment.
Further Reading: Ezekiel 33:3-7
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
