TOPIC: STRIFE CONDEMNED
TEXT: ROMANS 13:10-14
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
MEMORY VERSE: “Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying” (ROMANS 13:13).
MESSAGE
Sometimes ago, a youth stabbed his brother over a minor argument. It began with harmless talks which glided into a debate. “The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with” (Proverbs 17:14).
An undergraduate’s father’s car had a minor accident with a truck. While trying to resolve the issue amicably before law enforcement agents, he got into a hurtful argument with another youth. This led to a sudden fight and his sudden death.
Striving stems from unrighteous competition, envy, dishonesty, lust and covetousness. Riots and ultimate destruction follow the path of strife. The fear of God and His grace keep His people who love peace from strife. God is not the author of confusion; and this should be the trait of His children.
Strife is forbidden by God. It hinders and slows down progress. It grieves the Spirit of God and stops His move in a fellowship. Watch, we are in the last days, “cast off the works of darkness.” Love God and your neighbours.
QUOTE: Strife is forbidden by God.
CHALLENGE: Avoid strife!
PRAYER: Lord, make me calm at all times.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
