DCLM Higher Everyday 14 December 2024 — Study The Scriptures
DCLM Higher Everyday 14 December 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Study The Scriptures
Topic: Study The Scriptures
Text: Acts 17:1-11
1Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
3Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
4And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
7Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
8And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
9And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Key Verse: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).
Message
John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States once said: “So great is my veneration for the Bible that …the earlier my children begin to read it, the more confident will be my hopes that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year.”

The Scriptures refer to the whole books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. We are commanded to “search the scriptures.” The Bereans were said to have been nobler than those of Thessalonica because they received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily. Timothy from a child knew and continued in the Scriptures. The youthful age is a period of learning many things that would make one successful in life. Do not forget that the spiritual knowledge harvested from the Scripture will determine where you will spend eternity. Carefully read the Word. Personally search for the abundant treasures in His Scriptures to be strong in the faith.
Quote: Carefully read the Word
Challenge: Search the Scriptures daily.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to search the Scriptures daily. Amen.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
