DCLM Higher Everyday 27 April 2025 — Submission To Authorities
DCLM Higher Everyday 27 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Submission To Authorities
Topic: Submission To Authorities
Text: Romans 13:1-7
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Key Verse: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1).
Message
God is the Source of all authority and power. Therefore, the authority or power exercised by the government is by His permission. He has instituted the civil government, among men in order to prevent anarchy. The government has the right to enact laws and regulations to maintain peace, law and order in the land, and so has the power to punish whoever breaks the law. However, T. Ritcard Chase said that, “If a leader demonstrates competency, genuine concern for others, and admirable character, people will follow.” So the leader ought also to rule well.

Beloved, flee every form of disloyalty to the government. Do not be involved in smuggling, dealing in contraband goods, rebellion against the State, or evading duties. Do not join violent protests. Rather, be diligent in government service just as you are in your private engagements. No matter how normal the people of this world see rebellion, Christian youth should denounce it. Surrender unto the authority of your parents, pastors, teachers and government officials; this helps to prove that you are truly a child of God.
Quote: God is the source of all authority
Challenge: Surrender unto God’s ordained authorities.
Prayer for today: Holy Father, give me grace to be submissive, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
