DCLM Higher Everyday 9 April 2026 — Tares And Wheat

DCLM Higher Everyday  9 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Tares And Wheat

Topic: Tares And Wheat

Bible Reading: Matthew 13:24-28 (KJV)

24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

MEMORY VERSE: “He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up” (Matthew 13:28)?

Message

The parable of the tares presents to us two categories of people we may find in the world and even in a local assembly – the good and bad. The enemy sows’ tares to hurt and create problem in the world; but the good seed which is sown by preachers of the gospel must be tended, watered to be fruitful and useful to humanity and to God. Although the good and bad are together in this world, yet on the judgment day they shall be parted; then the righteous and the wicked shall be plainly known.
Are you a wheat or tare? God knows who we are perfectly. Pastors and leaders in the church may not know who is living in secret sins, but God knows and will judge in due time. The opportunity is there for sinning youths to become good seeds in the kingdom of God. It only takes repentance and firm belief in the atoning blood of Christ which was shed for us on the Cross of Calvary. That is the only way of transitioning from being a tare to wheat.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, help me to be a good seed in Your kingdom.

CHALLENGE

Are you a tare in the church?

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
