TOPIC: THE AUTHORITY OF A BELIEVER
BIBLE TEXT: JOSHUA 10:12-15
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
15 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
KEY VERSE: “Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon” (Joshua 10:12).
MESSAGE:
When a very sharp knife is left without use for a long period, it will become blunt, corroded and useless. Likewise, the power and authority that God has invested in His children, if not used, will become dormant and wasted. Signs and wonders will only follow you when you go out to win souls for the Lord. Anything that may want to hinder you, as you command in full assurance of faith and with a holy life, it will be done.
Joshua in our passage was confident and courageous because he knew he was on the field to fight the battle of the Lord. He was sure of victory. So, when it seemed that the sun was about to set, he commanded the sun and the moon to stand still. And they obeyed him.
Jesus has promised that signs will follow those that believe. Firstly, you must believe in Jesus and accept Him as your personal Saviour, Lord and Captain. Secondly, you are to go forth and preach the gospel in obedience to Christ’s command. It is when you go that the signs will follow. Preach the gospel and manifest faith in God’s promises. He will do wonders through you.
PRAYER: Lord, give me grace and power to go out with full assurance of faith, and do exploits for You.
FURTHER READING: Mark 16:15-20
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
