DCLM Sincere Milk 24 March 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Blessings of Obedience
Topic: The Blessings of Obedience
Text: Colossians 3:20-24
20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Key Verse: “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” Colossians 3:20
Message
Sandra is a well-behaved little girl; her parents and people around her always commend her for her good behaviour and respect for elders. She wakes up early in the morning and greets her parents, and she is always ready to run errands for them without complaining. As a result of her obedience, God blessed her memory that she was able to have excellent grades in her academic work.
Are you like Sandra? Do people know you as an obedient child? Or do they know you as the stubborn child on the street or in the community where you reside? The instruction of God to families on the role of parents and children in the family is that children must obey their parents in all things. This means you are not to pick and choose the instruction to obey especially when it is not sinful. You are to always be obedient because it is what pleases the Lord.
If you desire to please the Lord at all times, you must obey your parents in all things. Also know that there are lots of blessings that follow obedience; as you do, the Lord will bless you.

Prayer for today: I want to be an obedient child so that I can enjoy the blessings of obedience.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
