DCLM Higher Everyday 19 February 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Charge From A Trusted Leader

Topic: The Charge From A Trusted Leader

Text: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

18This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

19Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

20Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

Key Verse: “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare” (1 Timothy 1:18).

Message

A charge is an instruction or commandment or exhortation. It may come from God, parents, leaders or other persons who are above us. Abraham kept God’s charge and was mightily blessed by Him (Genesis 26:5). Jacob kept the charge of his parents not to marry the daughters of Canaan and was blessed by God (Genesis 28:1). Solomon disobeyed the charge of his parents to hearken to all the commandments of God and was rejected by God (1Kings 2:1-3). The charge from Paul to Timothy, his spiritual son, was for Timothy to engage in a good warfare. Christians are in a battlefield and must be ready to fight according to the charge from the Lord to them. They must fight against sins and Satan to rescue souls from him.

The only way to be happy and fruitful in life is to obey the charge of God and godly counsels of our leaders and parents. Those who disobey God’s charge make a shipwreck of their faith and expose themselves to God’s wrath.

Quote: Christians are in a battlefield

Challenge: Be a soldier in the Lord’s army.

Prayer for today: Help me Lord to be obedient to your charge.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
