DCLM Higher Everyday 26 February 2026 — The Counsel Of Godly Parents
DCLM Higher Everyday 26 February 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Counsel Of Godly Parents
Topic: The Counsel Of Godly Parents
Text: Proverbs 31:1-7
1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Key Verse: “What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings” (Proverb 31:2-3).
Message
Godly parents will not allow any of their children to live their lives carelessly. Such parents are concerned not only about the academic development but also the spiritual condition of their children. They desire to bequeath to them a family legacy of faith and faithfulness to God. Godly parents do guide their children in the path of righteousness by teaching them about God, His words, love and engaging them in prayers and devotion with the intention to make the children’s lives glorious and honouring to God.

Godly parents watch over their children – the kinds of friends they keep, places they go to, kinds of songs they listen to and so forth. This is to ensure they mature to be men and women whose lives glorify God. John and Charles Wesley, including their siblings, were respected and godly people because they followed the guidance of their godly mother. Their lives inspired many to follow Christ. Regrets, destruction and eternal condemnation await any youth who rejects or neglects godly counsel to live holy life and keep away from sinful lifestyles.
Quote: Their lives inspired many to follow Christ
Challenge: A wise child will heed godly counsels.
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me not to be deaf to godly counsels.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
