TOPIC: THE FOOLISH VIRGINS
TEXT: MATTHEW 25:8-13
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
MEMORY VERSE: “And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you” (MATTHEW 25:8, 9).
MESSAGE:
In 1909, James H. Stanley warned through his song ‘Prepare To Meet Thy God’:
“Careless soul, why will you linger,
Wand’ring from the fold of God?
Hear you not the invitation?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God.”
Refrain:
“Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone,
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God.”
“Why so thoughtless are you staying,
While the fleeting years go by,
And your life is spent in folly?
Oh, prepare to meet thy God.” [Refrain]

Jesus said the foolish hears the word of God but does not follow it. The five foolish virgins appeared religious but lacked the Holy Spirit; do not be a fool who thinks he is spiritually okay.
The foolish virgins have proven that you cannot depend on others’ oil, even if they are your parents, you must have oil in your lamp and in an extra vessel to be prepared. Spiritual preparation and growth cannot be inherited or transferred.
The unexpected delay of the Bridegroom reveals that our preparedness and faith is exposed during crisis. How prepared are you for Christ’s second coming? If you are not, come to Jesus now, do not wait until the eleventh-hour to amend your ways.
QUOTE: Our preparedness is exposed in crisis.
CHALLENGE: Be intentional in building your spiritual life.
PRAYER: Help me Lord, to be found worthy and ready when You come.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
