DCLM Sincere Milk 10 August 2025 — The Great Sacrifice
Topic: The Great Sacrifice
Text: Isaiah 53:1-10
1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Key Verse: “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” Isaiah 53:7
Message
A sacrifice is a costly gift – something that is precious and means a lot to the one making the sacrifice; as it did to the woman who poured expensive perfume on Jesus (Mark 14:3). A sacrifice could also be something one cannot see, like giving up a privilege or right. You could sacrifice your time by spending a whole afternoon looking after a younger brother or sister.

After the Fall of Man as a result of Adam’s disobedience, man lost his close fellowship with God and was sent out of the garden of Eden. However, God was not happy about the separation. Therefore, He made a promise to send the Saviour at a future time. In the meantime, God gave opportunity for His people to have fellowship with Him through the sacrificial system. This was a temporary arrangement in anticipation for the coming Saviour. The Old Testament sacrificial system involved the killing of a special animal. The blood of such animal was the agent for the temporary cleansing of sin.
God used the Old Testament system to prepare the way for the coming of the Saviour – Jesus Christ. As the only begotten Son of God, Jesus came into the world to offer the perfect sacrifice to take away our sins and give us permanent solution to the consequence of our disobedience. All a sinner needs do now is to accept the great sacrifice of Jesus, repent of his sins and ask for cleansing through the blood of Jesus.

Prayer for today: Lord, I accept the great sacrifice for my sin and I surrender unto You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
