DCLM Higher Everyday 8 March 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Key To Academic Success

Topic: The Key To Academic Success

Text: Joshua 1:7-9

7Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Key Verse: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night…for then thou shalt make the way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

Message

Success in academic pursuit should be the utmost desire of every student at any level of education. However, true success comes from God as stated in our memory verse. When we meditate on God’s word and do all that He commands us to do, good success can only be the end result. To be successful is a two-way partnership deal with God on one hand, and the believer, on the other hand. Meditate on God’s word always to build a strong spiritual bond with Him.

Our part in the partnership with God for success include: adequate preparation – reading our books, doing our assignments and submitting them as at when due, listening attentively in class to our teachers, and asking questions on areas we don’t understand. On the other hand, those who don’t meditate on God’s word and do their part, resort to unethical short-cuts to achieving success through exam malpractices. Are you one of those who don’t read their books and cheat during examinations? If you are, you need to repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour to avoid damning your soul.

Quote: Meditate on God’s word always

Challenge: Success is in meditation on the Word.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me to follow Your way to success, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
