TEXT: PSALM 24:5-10
5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
MEMORY VERSE: “Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle” (PSALM 24:8).
MESSAGE:
The phrase, “King of glory” depicts the ultimate sovereignty of God. Glory is part of God’s essence. A Christian theologian succinctly stated, “The whole world is charged with the glory of God and I feel fire and music under my feet.” The Psalmist’s reference to God as the King of Glory is attestation to His perfect holiness. Therefore, calling God the King of Glory entails He is the most awesome, most powerful, and it should be taken seriously. He is, was and will always be greater and higher than any other being. The Psalm was written to proclaim God’s supremacy and omnipotence.
“Who is the King of glory…?” In our text, He is God the Father. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who became human in order to atone for our sins is also a King of Glory like His Father. He took our sin and guilt upon Himself, and He suffered and died to reconcile us with God. Do you know Him today? Let Jesus reign in your life. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
QUOTE: He is the most awesome.
CHALLENGE: Let the king of glory come into your life.
PRAYER: Let your glory envelope me, oh Lord.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
