DCLM Higher Everyday 5 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Light of The World

Topic: The Light of The World

Text: Matthew 5:14-16

14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Key Verse: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Message

Martin Luther King Jr. says: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” From the creation of things God commanded the existence of light and light came into existence to put out the total darkness the earth was encompassed with.  The absence of natural light is night and even at night we need light to see. Just as God created the natural light to give us light to see, the Christian is the light that He has placed in this dark corrupt world for people to see and be enlightened to embrace the saving gospel.

Imagine a bulb shining bright in a dark environment and you willl observe that it will attract different kinds of insects to its domain.  Our lives and character as Christians should be one which radiates so much goodness that others around us can see, glorify God and be moved to give their lives to Jesus. As a Christian youth are you radiating the light for your friends to see and appreciate the love of God?

Quote: We need light to see

Challenge: Are you a light in the dark?

Prayer for today: Dear God, help me to shine as light, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
