DCLM Higher Everyday 2 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Light Of The World

Topic: The Light Of The World

Text: Matthew 5:14-16

14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Key Verse: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14).

Message

Robert Lewis Stevenson, as a boy was looking through the window watching a workman come by and light the gas lights along the street. When asked what he was watching, the young boy said, “I see a man making holes in the darkness.” This scenario exemplifies how Christians should shine to radiate the dark communities around them.

In our text, Jesus Christ said, we are the light of the world because He is Light of the world (John 9:5). He came to shine the light into every life; and as you turn to Him to be your personal Saviour, He will shine the light of the Truth and the light of the gospel into your life. This world is in darkness because of the evil activities of the devil and sinners. As Christian youths, we are to radiate the light of God in our schools, campuses, workplaces and communities. We are to live uncompromising and shining Christian life everywhere. Abstain from all evil practices and let your life reflect Christ so that sinners will be drawn to Him.

Quote: Let your life reflect Christ

Challenge: Brighten the corner where you are.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, help me to reflect you in this dark world.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
