DCLM Sincere Milk 17 September 2024 — The Lord’s Supper

DCLM Sincere Milk  17 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Lord’s Supper

Topic: The Lord’s Supper

Text: 1Chorinthians 11:23-30

23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Key Verse: “And when he had given thanks, he brake , and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in
remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink, in rememberance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24,25

Message

The Lord’s Supper is the last meal that Jesus had with his disciples shortly before He was arrested, tried and crucified. He used the opportunity to teach them the importance of the sacrifice that He was about to undertake. Though He has been having mealtime with His friends before now, but this one was unique and significant because:
(i) It emphasizes the purpose of Christ’s coming into the world – to die for all mankind.
(ii) It is a proof that the purpose was about to be fulfilled.
(iii) It provides opportunity for the disciples to understand the significance of the body of Christ and His blood that He would shed.
(iv) It was a call to always remember His sacrifice, reach out to sinners and bring them into fellowship with the Saviour.

This was the reason Jesus commands that it should be observed regularly. For a sinner to partake in the Lord’s Supper, he must first repent and turn from his sinful ways. Then accept Jesus Christ as His personal Saviour and Friend.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to constantly partake in the Lord’s Supper here on earth and be ready for Your kingdom.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
