DCLM Sincere Milk  9 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Majority Is Not Always Right

Topic: The Majority Is Not Always Right

Text: 2Chronicles 18:4-13

4And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

5Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.

6But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

7And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

8And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.

9And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

10And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.

11And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

12And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.

13And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.

Key Verse: “And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.” 2 Chronicles 18:13

Message

Most decisions in the world today is by popular vote: that is the decision is based on opinion of the majority of people. Hence, it is common to hear “populardemand” which means something is done because majority of people have asked for it to be done. However, popular demand is not always right when it comes to the things of God. Children of God are encouraged to always seek God’s standard in all things.

In our Bible passage today, four hundred prophets gave a prophesy that was not from God, but one man, Micaiah stood alone for the truth. Believers are to be like Micaiah in standing for God and the truth all the time. We should not be confused by the majority opinion but always seek to know the mind and the will of God. Ask for God’s will before you take any decision and not do something because the majority of the people are doing it. Seek counsel from godly elders if you are confused in any matter.

The word of God warns that “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12) It pays to remain with God. Stay with the word of God, even if you are the only one. The society is full of lies and deceits but you must be another Micaiah and the Lord will bless you.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me to stand on the truth at all times.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
