DCLM Higher Everyday 24 December 2023 — The Model For Christians
Topic: The Model For Christians
Text: Hebrews 12:1-3
1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Key Verse: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
Message
We are living in the world that Satan has polluted with all kinds of evil. His goal is to debar all living souls from going to heaven since his doom has been sealed by the Almighty God for his rebellion. Satan’s intention is to prevent sinners from forsaking their sins. For the saints, he can use anything or anybody to lure them back to sin. That’s why today Satan is deceiving many youths to take his inspired pop singers, fraudsters, immoral celebrities and commercial preachers to be their role models and idols.
The reading text makes it clear that the faultless and sinless Son of God remains the perfect example and role model that all believers should aspire to follow His footsteps if they want to overcome Satan and sin like the triumphant saints. If their character, comportment, conversation, communion and companionship are modeled after Christ, they will be sure of victory over sin and entry into His glory. Jesus was Apostle Paul’s model. Who is your model? Who are you patterning your life after?
Quote: Who is your role model?
Challenge: Jesus is the perfect role model for all.
Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to follow Jesus only.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
