TOPIC: THE PARABLE OF THE TARES – 1
TEXT: MATTHEW 13:24-30
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
MEMORY VERSE: “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way” (MATTHEW 13:25).
MESSAGE:
Identical twins are usually very difficult to distinguish and are much more difficult to identify in photographs. In the plant kingdom, many edible plants have poisonous types that may look like them. Like many other crops, wheat and tares can only be differentiated from one another when they germinate and bring forth leaves and fruits.
Lessons from today’s parable are many. There are good and evil seeds which farmers must diligently separate. In the world of soulwinning, there are enemies who will not accept the word but will want to also interrupt and hinder other people. A proper follow up of converts will establish them in the faith and protect them from false prophets.
We must be patient even in the face of provocation not to act in a way that will stop people from believing in Christ. Preach the truth and pray that the Holy Spirit should use the word to convict the ripened souls for His kingdom. Do not attempt to fight or force people to accept the gospel. Remember, there is a day for everyone to account for his lifestyle.
QUOTE: The planter must be vigilant.
CHALLENGE: Preach, don’t fight for God.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be a vigilant soulwinner.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
