DCLM Higher Everyday 22 May 2025 — The Power Of Praise

DCLM Higher Everyday 22 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Power Of Praise

Topic: The Power Of Praise

Text: 2 Chronicles 20:20-26

20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

22And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

24And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

25And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

26And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

Key Verse: “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper” (2 Chronicles 20:20).

Message

In 2 Chronicles 20:20-26, we witness a powerful demonstration of the effectiveness of praise in the face of adversity. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were faced with a formidable enemy, but instead of giving in to fear and despair, they chose to trust in God and praise His name. As they lifted their voices in praise, God intervened on their behalf, causing confusion among their enemies and securing victory for His people. The power of praise turned the tide of battle against the enemies and brought about a miraculous deliverance.

In the same way, believers are not expected to give in to despair or despondency during unfavourable situations which would always occur once and again in our lives. Paul and Silas in the prison were found praying and singing praises to God (Acts 16:25). This led to their deliverance from jail and the deliverance of the jailer and his household from the power of Satan by salvation through the gospel message. We are more useful for the glory of God when we surround ourselves with the atmosphere of praise.

Quote: The power of praise turned the tide

Challenge: In every situation, praise God.

Prayer for today: Give me the grace to praise you always, oh my God!

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
