TOPIC: The Power Of Unfeigned Love (DCLM Daily Manna 24 May 2025)

KEY VERSE: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently” (1 Peter 1:22).

TEXT: 1 Peter 1:22-25 (KJV)

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Posterity has continued to extol the virtue of Reverend Maximillian Kolbe who demonstrated sacrificial love for a stranger during World War II at the infamous concentration camp Auschwitz, Poland in 1941. A prisoner had escaped from Auschwitz and in retaliation, the deputy camp commander picked up 10 men to be starved to death in an underground bunker to deter further escape attempts. When one of the selected men, Franciszek Gajowniczek, cried out, “My wife! My children!” the Polish priest, Kolbe (a Conventual Franciscan friar), volunteered to die in his place. He argued that he was a Catholic priest and older than Gajowniczek, 41. The deputy commander accepted the offer. He was killed by the Nazis with a lethal injection on August 14, 1941.

This act of selfless love, defying the Nazis’ brutality, showed the power of Christ’s love that should provoke us to lay down our lives for others (John 15:13). The same message is amplified in the text for our reading today. The passage shows that when our heart is truly purified, it produces genuine and unfeigned love for fellow believers and others around us.

Why do we see a yawning gap in our assemblies and personal relationships today? Why is this kind of sacrificial love lacking among us as Christians? It is simply because we fail to pay close attention to the exhortation of the Scripture. We have not allowed our hearts to be purified and tempered by the word of God. When we live by the truth of God’s word, it becomes very easy to receive the grace of God that enables us to love one another sincerely and to find hope and security in His unchanging promises.

Pure love is genuine, unpretentious, and practical. It does good to others without any strings attached. It is not selective nor does it discriminate along race, gender, age, academic or economic lines. That is the mark of true Christianity!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Love is best defined by action.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
