DCLM Higher Everyday 26 May 2024 — The Promise Of The Father
Topic: The Promise Of The Father
Text — Luke 24:49-53
49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
50And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
Key Verse: “And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with the power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
Message
The desire of our Lord, Jesus Christ is to replicate Himself in all believing youth. He desires to empower them to be fully useful for the kingdom work in effectively preaching soul saving good news to all sinners through the power of the Holy Ghost. .
How can you receive this promise? Oswald J. Smith wrote, “God will never pour out His Spirit on the flesh. Sin and spirituality cannot co-exist. The Holy Spirit will not occupy a dirty heart.” The Bible therefore says, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). After this, then you take the next step of praying for the possession of a pure heart (Psalm 24:3-4).
Finally, receive this promised power by waiting upon the Lord in earnest prayer. “…wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you” (Acts 1:4,8). As you pray with all your heart by faith, you will experience this promise (Acts 2:1-4).
Quote: Take the next step of praying
Challenge: Be holy and pray to receive the promise
Prayer for today: Oh God, fill me with Your promised power, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
