DCLM Sincere Milk 14 June 2025 — The Sin Of Covetousness
Topic: The Sin Of Covetousness.
Text: Luke 12:15-21
15And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
17And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Key Verse: And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Luke 12:15
Message
To be covetous means to desire and want to have things that do not belong to you. Coveting is an ungodly desire for something that belongs to another. It can lead to greed, stealing, jealousy, envy, even murder. Our heavenly Father wants boys and girls to be grateful for those things they have and to work for what they desire by praying to God and asking their parents.

The spirit of covetousness is the mother of many other sins. The Bible is warning us to take heed and not be covetous, but to be content with what we have. There are many examples of people in the Bible who were covetous. People like Achan who stole the accursed things that God said the Israelites should not take after winning the battle, and he was destroyed. Gehazi took back the gift that his master Elisha rejected from Naaman, he ended up getting the leprosy that God took away from Naaman.
Covetousness is sinful, do not be involved in it as there are consequences. If you are involved in any form of covetousness, you must repent and be saved.
PRAYER: Dear Father, please deliver me from the sin of covetousness.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
