DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 5 May 2022 — The Son of Consolation
DCLM Higher Everyday 5 May 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Son of Consolation
TOPIC: THE SON OF CONSOLATION
BIBLE TEXT:ACTS 4:35-37
35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
MEMORY VERSE: “And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet” (ACTS 4:36, 37).
MESSAGE:
Joses was a Levite, a citizen of Cyrus and was surnamed Barnabas by the Apostles. The name “Barnabas” means “the son of consolation”. It was not just the name, he was a real son of consolation, a succor to the church at Jerusalem. Barnabas was selfless and totally sold out to God. He excelled in the art of encouraging others; that was why he sold his land and brought the money to the Apostles to share among the brethren.
Today, we just get too busy to be concerned about the wellbeing, happiness and spiritual welfare of others, because the art of encouraging others has long been lost. There is so much to learn as Christians; you need to create time to show more love and concern for others, like Barnabas.
Above all, you should encourage, especially, the discouraged brothers and sisters. This will encourage Pastors and leaders who are watching over you. God is looking for you to be a son of consolation to the brethren and the Church. Be a Barnabas today.
QUOTE: Be a Barnabas today.
CHALLENGE: Be a consolation to others.
PRAYER: Oh God, make me a source of consolation to others.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
