Topic: The Tabernacle

Text: Exodus 40:1-8

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

3And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail.

4And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.

5And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.

6And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

7And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein.

8And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate.

Key Verse: “On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation” (Exodus 40:2).

Message

The tabernacle was the place where God dwelt and met with His people after they left Egypt. God wanted to be close to His people as they wandered through the desert. He wanted to meet with His people just as He had met with Adam in the garden of Eden before Adam sinned. The sin in Adam became like a wall between him and God.

Because of sin, people could never be able to go in and out of the tent to meet God face-to-face. A special curtain in the tent separated the people from God. Yet, God allowed the high priest to go into the very holy place behind the curtain once a year to ask for forgiveness for himself and for the nation.

If God is bigger than the whole universe, how could He get down into a tent to be close to His people? Just as an artist does not become part of his painting, so God does not have to get inside His own creation in a physical way. He can be everywhere and in one place at the same time!

What is even more amazing is that God, through the Holy Spirit, comes to live inside every person who believes in Jesus. As a friend of Jesus, you are the temple of God. You must therefore be holy so as to enjoy fellowship with God.

Prayer: Lord, make my heart Your dwelling place.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
