DCLM Sincere Milk 7 May 2025 — The Tree Of Knowledge

DCLM Sincere Milk  7 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Tree Of Knowledge

Topic: The Tree Of Knowledge

Text: Genesis 2:9-17

9And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Key Verse: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Genesis 2:17

Message

Isabel was left alone in a room of colorful boxes filled with every imaginable food and drink. She was allowed to enjoy anything from the many boxes, except one box- a black box in the middle of the room- that she must not open. If you are Isabel, would you ignore the black box and be happy to carry on enjoying the things in the colorful boxes? Or would you move closer and closer to the black box, lift the lid slightly, and take a peep? This important decision was given to Adam and Eve.

Adam had lots of delicious fruits to choose from in the garden of Eden. He was allowed to eat whatever he wanted. Of all the many fruit trees, there was only one, right in the middle of the garden from which God told him not to eat. The tree in the middle of the garden was the tree that gave knowledge of what was good and what was bad. The Lord told Adam that if he ate of the fruit, he would die.

The world is filled with many good things for us to enjoy and fun things to do. On the other hand, there are things that look good but are poisonous to the soul. Because God knows what is good and what is bad for us, He clearly shows us in the Bible what we should and what we should not do. The wisest thing to do is to avoid the mistakes of Adam and Eve. Look away from worldly attractions that will take you far away from God. Focus on God’s word, be obedient and enjoy abundant life.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, I pray that You will give me the wisdom to choose what is right.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
