Topic: The Ultimate Separation
Text: Matthew 25:31-46
31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Key Verse: “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal” (Matthew 25:46).
Message
It was the interment event of a beloved godly mother. The crowd wore gloomy look on their faces as they came to pay their last respect to the great woman. The preacher was giving his emotion- laden homily to extol the virtues and work of the departed Christian woman. While concluding the exhortation, he fired two remarks targeted at the children. To those who are born again among them, the preacher said their Mum bade them “Good Night”. To those ones who were not born again, he said their Mum bade them “Good Bye”. Those two contrastive parting remarks illustrate the final separation and alluded to two destinations that will ultimately play out at the end of life.

In today’s text, Christ clearly affirms the existence of two separate destinations and what will determine where everyone will spend eternity. While the King (God) will welcome those on the right hand (the believers in Christ) and they will be ushered into eternal bliss in heaven, those on the left hand (the unbelievers) will have their abode in hell where they will suffer forever. According to the Lord, the life we live here, the love we show to others and our decision to remain as sheep in His fold will determine what side we will go at the end of life.

Regardless of man’s arguments and opposition against the reality of heaven and hell, and about the final separation, none of these can invalidate the fulfilment of what Christ said will happen.
As pilgrims, we must then be wise to prepare for our eternal home. The only condition that guarantees access into heaven is to switch to the right side now by becoming sheep in the Kingdom through repentance from all sins, faith in Christ and acceptance of His salvation.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Separation from sin here prevents separation from God hereafter.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
