TOPIC: THE WAGES OF DISOBEDIENCE
TEXT: JEREMIAH 11:6-11
7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
9 And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
Key Verse: “Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them” (Jeremiah 11:11).
MESSAGE:
There is a reward for anything that any one does in this world, whether good or bad. Our Bible passage reveals God’s great disappointment and displeasure with the people of Israel. Remember, the Israelites were the chosen people of God. They were special in the sight of God, and God was always fighting for them and even had to destroy nations because of the love He had for them.
God entered into a covenant with them to continue to bless and protect them if they will obey all His commandments and serve Him. Unfortunately, they forsook God and served idols. What was the consequence or cost of Israel’s disobedience? God brought hardship and afflictions upon them. He turned His back against them and refused to listen to their prayers.
The situation is the same in our society today. People have forsaken their Creator and have given themselves to evil and wicked practices. God will not continue to keep quiet. He has set a day aside for judgment of this wicked world. The result of disobedience of man are sicknesses, diseases (including pandemics), failure, poverty, hardship and other calamities in the world today.
Although God is kind and merciful, He will not bestow His blessings upon any one that continues in disobedience, except they repent of their sins and turn to Christ.
Prayer: My Lord and my God, give me grace to live a life of total obedience to Your commandments so I can enjoy Your blessings.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
