DCLM Higher Everyday 7 August 2024 — The Widow Wins
DCLM Higher Everyday 7 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Widow Wins
Topic: The Widow Wins
Text: Mark 12:42-44
42And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
44For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
Key Verse: “And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury” (Mark 12:42,43).
Message
Mike Murdock said, “Giving is a sign that you have conquered greed.” As we come before the Lord, He knows the motive and the intentions of our heart. The widow in our text gave all that she had over and above everyone who gave out of the abundance of their possessions. She gave more than others in terms of the proportion of what she had. She probably had no source of income after her husband’s death. The two small copper coins were all she had – and yet she offered them to God.The rich on the other hand, had enough and to spare. So, what they offered to God was just loose change; what they could actually let go of without feeling it.
Jesus is teaching the disciples that it is not the amount of money given that is important, but rather the sacrifice made in the offering and the spirit with which we give. Learn to give the best of what you have to the Lord. Most importantly, He wants you to give Him the whole of your heart.
Quote: Learn to give the best
Challenge: Give sacrificially to God.
Prayer for today: O God, help me to give sacrificially, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
