DCLM Daily Manna 16 June 2024 — The Word Of Exhortation

DCLM Daily Manna 16 June 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Word Of Exhortation

TOPIC: The Word Of Exhortation (DCLM Daily Manna 16 June 2024)

KEY VERSE: “And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words” (Hebrews 13:22).

TEXT: Hebrews 13:16-25 (KJV)

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

22 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.

25 Grace be with you all. Amen.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Maurice Freehill posed the question, “Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?” Certainly, there is something wrong with the man who is afraid of light. Sadly, many men are. They are afraid of the light that comes from God’s word, principally because it exposes their cherished evil deeds and rouses their conscience. But heaven-bound people delight in having God’s word.

The inspired writer of the epistle to the Hebrews was conscious of the importance of God’s word for the sustenance of believers’ life. In the few verses that make the text of today’s passage, they were urged to devote themselves to God and live to do good, obey the church leadership and pray for him for an opportunity to visit them shortly. He ended up commending them to God for the supply of every necessary grace so they would keep pleasing the Lord.

Our attitude to God’s word matters a lot. It defines the quality of our spirituality and determines our altitude. A Christian who maintains a casual attitude to the Scriptures and the teaching of God’s word will remain a spiritual baby wallowing in carnality for a long time. The one who makes effective use of the various means of grace at his disposal and takes delight in the study of God’s word will grow rapidly and develop more spiritual stamina that will enable him to live the overcoming life.

Today, God wants us to permit His word to reign in our lives as revealed to us by His messengers. We should not allow the prevailing religious entertainments and activities or the pursuit of the things of this life to reduce our appetite for the word of exhortation, which holds more eternal value.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It is a pity that those who need the light most shun it most.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
