DCLM Higher Everyday 1 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Works of The Flesh – 2
Topic: The Works of The Flesh – 2
Text: Galatians 5:19-21
19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Key Verse: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness…”(Galatians 5:19).
Message
The works of the flesh are sinful acts. Mr. DeHaan, M.D says, “Sin is like the tse-tse-fly, spreading disease that creates spiritual death.” In the first part of the works of the flesh, we have seen the struggles of the carnal man and apostle Paul’s admonition to Christians to walk in the spirit. Our text today emphasizes the true life of the unregenerate youths and their doom. The characteristics of the sinning youth are clearly shown in the three verses but the list is endless. Paul, therefore, put it as, “and such like,”these include examination malpractice, drug addition, pornography, cultism, smoking, violence, kidnapping, worldly music and sinful movies.
Most often, unbelievers think they are enjoying. The devil does not allow them to see the destruction of their dreams, wasted potentials and eternal damnation in hell fire. The works of the flesh are devil’s character qualities manifested in the life of sinners. And that is what Christ came to destroy. Only confession, repentance of sinful practices and faith in Christ can bring genuine forgiveness and righteousness.
Quote: Struggles of the carnal man
Challenge: Are you ready to be free from sin?
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, set me free from the works of the flesh.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
