DCLM Higher Everyday 12 January 2024 — Then Came The Altar Call

DCLM Higher Everyday 12 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThen Came The Altar Call

Topic: Then Came The Altar Call

Text: Acts 2:36-41

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Key Verse: “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

Message

In a small church nestled on a hill, the preacher gave a powerful sermon about God’s unconditional love and redemption.  Ethan, a notorious drunkard, staggered in with a bottle of beer in his hand while the message was still on. The words of the preacher hit him hard, exposing his hopelessness without Christ. Then came the altar call! With trembling hands, Ethan rose from his seat and stepped forward. As he knelt at the altar with his eyes filled with tears, a wave of repentance united his soul with the Saviour in total surrender. It was a new day for the young Ethan as the peace of Christ flooded his heart.

On the day of Pentecost, one of the privileges enjoyed was an open door to repentance. Peter, in our text, made the call to repentance after a fiery message. About 3000 souls responded to that altar call and were saved. The Saviour is still calling every youth who is lost in sin today. It does not matter how far you have gone in sin. Answer the call now and obtain His salvation.

Quote: About 3000 souls responded

Challenge: Do not reject the Saviour’s call.

Prayer for today: Save me Oh God, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
