DCLM Higher Everyday 28 February 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — There is gain in giving
Topic: There is gain in giving
Text: Acts 20:34-38
34Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
36And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
37And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,
38Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
Key Verse: “I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).
Message
John D. Rockefeller learnt the blessedness of giving the tithe (ten percent) of his income from his mother. At age 16 he started a job and was faithful in tithing. He became a wealthy young millionaire and established the world’s biggest company at age 43. At age 53, he stopped giving the tithe. He contracted a terrible terminal disease. He repented of his selfishness and was healed. He started Charity Foundations that supported the weak and needy. He lived healthy till a ripe age of 98 years.

Apostle Paul was a professional Lawyer before he met Christ. From that day he consecrated himself to evangelism and Church planting in the heathen nations. He took to tent-making to support his basic needs and those of the brethren who were with him (Acts 18:3; 20:34). Paul was a giver, hence he admonished saying, “Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality” (Romans 12:13). He was a champion of “sowing into the lives of others.” Do not always expect to receive; also give. Give tithes and offerings and never forget the needy.
Quote: Never forget the needy
Challenge: He that fails to give to God will give to devils.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me a gracious heart to give to others.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
