DCLM Higher Everyday 20 August 2024 — They Also Built But Foolishly
DCLM Higher Everyday 20 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — They Also Built But Foolishly
Topic: They Also Built But Foolishly
Text: Matthew 7:24-29
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Key Verse: “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand” (Matthew 7: 26).
Message
From our text we saw that what distinguished the wise and the foolish is obedience. The wise built his house on the rock, and this rock is Jesus. The foundation is rooted on salvation given freely by Christ to all who believe. The wise obeys all the teachings of Christ and anchors his lifestyle on the perfect will of God. Andrew Murray asserted that, “From beginning to the end, from paradise lost to paradise regained, the law is unchangeable – it is only obedience that gives access to the tree of life and the favour of God.” It is not so with the foolish as he hears the same truth and has equivalent intelligence to understand, but unfortunately fails to put it into practice.
Christian youths should continue to anchor their faith in Jesus by obeying the full orbed truth. They should be wary of their peers who would want to lure them into temptation. A solid foundation can only be sure if you follow the instruction given by Jesus – the Chief Corner Stone.

Challenge: What kind of foundation are you building?
Prayer for today: Help me LORD to be anchored to the Rock of Ages.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
