DCLM Sincere Milk 2 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Though He Slay Me
Topic: Though He Slay Me
Text: Job 13:13-18
13Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
14Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
18Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
Key Verse: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:” Job 13:15a
Message
A twelve year old boy once engaged the mother in a serious chat. He said Mom, “why is it that you are the woman that spanks me the most; yet I love you so much and you are the best.” The mother responded with a smile and said, “You must understand that the spanks were not because of hatred but borne out of true love to make you the best you can be. The boy responded “Mom, this is a mystery that I still prefer, love and cherish you the most despite all the corrections.” The mother reaffirmed that Love that exists between mother and child is the mystery.

Job so loved God that all the evils that came upon him could not make him forsake God. The three Hebrew children were ready to die in the furnace because they love God. All the Bible martyrs went through all the suffering and death because of their love for God. Do you really loved God? Every little problem makes you cry and feel forsaken by God. Are you just serving God because of His blessings? If you truly love the Lord, you will not be offended when trials, persecutions, delays or denials come your way. Be like Job and say, though He slays me; yet I will trust Him.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, help me to love You indeed and give me the grace to cleave to You come what may.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
