Topic: Tough Job For The Tough – Part 3
Text: 1 Samuel 17:42-44
42And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
44And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
Key Verse: “And the Philistine said to David, come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field” (1 Samuel 17:44).
Message
David had a formidable and boastful enemy to fight, but he had no reason to panic before him because he was not a weakling but a tough-minded child of God. He knew that he was not going to defeat Goliath with the arms of flesh but by the power of Jehovah. F. B. Meyer wrote, “Our God is Jehovah of hosts, who can summon unexpected reinforcements at any moment to aid His people. Believe that He is there between you and your difficulty, and what baffles you will flee before you, as clouds before the gale.” Truly, that was how the battle went. With a sling and stone, and an unshakable faith in God, he killed the seemingly unconquerable Goliath and the great army of the Philistines who relied on Goliath for victory fled away.
Friend, as you go through life, from youth, adult to old age, you will face battles. But how would you respond to them? Of course with faith. Your Goliath now may be your education, peer pressure or financial challenges. Pray, work hard and smart, and God will grant you good success.
Quote: He had no reason to panic before him
Challenge: God will grant you good success.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to overcome my Goliath.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
