DCLM Sincere Milk 13 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Trust Calms Fear
Topic: Trust Calms Fear
Text: Psalm 56:1-4
1(To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.) Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
2Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Key Verse: “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” Psalm 56:3
Message
Marlyne was afraid when she heard gun shots again. Most of what she hears nowadays are about shooting, rape, kidnapping, terrorists’ attack, earthquake, tornadoes and war. Some are happening very close to her and others in faraway places. Now, before she leaves the house, her mother would spend time to instruct her on what to do in case she finds herself in trouble. Beside these, she is afraid of failure at school and also of misunderstanding at home.

Fear is all over the place and no one is really free. But the Psalmist tells us how we can calm our fears. We must trust in God, Who is able to deliver us whenever we are afraid. To trust in God means to believe that in times of danger God will make a way of escape for you. Your enemies may be many, but God is able to save His
children from all evil. Pray without ceasing. Ask the Spirit of God to direct you where to go and when to do so. Believe the promises of God and trust in the Lord.

Prayer for today: Though the world is full of danger, I trust the Lord that He will deliver me from all evil.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
