DCLM Higher Everyday 9 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Turn on him in trying times
Topic: Turn on him in trying times
Text: Hebrews 12:1-4
1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
MEMORY VERSE: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (HEBREWS 12:2).
Message
Richard Dawkins is a British evolutionary biologist and author. His book, The God Delusion, is one of the powerful books being used by new atheists to argue against the existence of God. One question or argument that atheists advance for their rejection of God is, “If there is a good God, why is there so much evil in the world?” Some sincere believers often wrestle with similar questions, “Why does God allow suffering to affect even His beloved and faithful children?”

Many people find it difficult to reconcile the fact that God is love with the reality of suffering and affliction that sometimes befall saints. Suffering is a reality in the world, and the Bible acknowledges that. However, the word of God teaches that suffering could be a trial or test for the believer. A Christian’s faith must be proved and refined through fire. To come out better and more precious through trials and tribulations, it is important to look in the right direction. Believers are to look unto Jesus, who is able to succour and support them during their trying moments.
QUOTE: Look in the right direction.
CHALLENGE: A Christian’s faith must be tried.
PRAYER: I lift up my eyes to Thee, O Lord.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
