DCLM Higher Everyday 9 October 2025 — Turn To God In Times Of Trouble
DCLM Higher Everyday 8 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Turn To God In Times Of Trouble
Topic: Turn To God In Times Of Trouble
Text: 1 Samuel 30:1-8
1And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
3So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
7And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
8And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
Key Verse: “And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all” (1 Samuel 30:8).
Message
Most times we allow our problems to look bigger than our faith. We are so overwhelmed by the sudden challenges they pose that we resort to despondency and despair. At that moment we forget that there is God who is bigger than all our problems. That was exactly the initial attitude of David and his valiant men who came from a fighting expedition only to find that a group of Amalekites had invaded their camp, burned their properties and kidnapped their wives and children.

But thank God David resorted to God to find the way forward. God gave him the go-ahead and recovered all that was lost. What challenges are you facing presently? It could be bereavement, failure in exams, lack of funds to pay school fees, and so that is posing a challenge to you at the moment. Never mind, turn to the Lord in prayer and have faith in His unchanging promises. Ask Him for direction, and consult your church leaders where necessary for guidance. God will surely bring you out as He did for Daniel, David and many others.
Quote: Never mind, turn to the Lord
Challenge: God helped David, He will also help you.
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me to overcome all challenges and recover all losses.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
