TOPIC: USING MODERN MESSENGERS
TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 2:19-25
19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.
21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.
22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
MEMORY VERSE: “Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants” (PHILIPPIANS 2:25).
MESSAGE:
In the New Testament, the gospel message was communicated essentially through two means – verbally and by letters (epistles). Paul, the Apostle, was the most prolific writer of such epistles. These letters were delivered to various Churches by means of human messengers. Timothy was a handy messenger. So was Epaphroditus, Phebe, Tychicus, and others. It was difficult, costly, slow, and sometimes risky to deliver such messages.
Modern technology enables the gospel message to travel faster, safer, cheaper and farther than ever before. The advent of the social media, satellite technology and internet services has simplified the process of transmitting the gospel message. With the click of a button, the same message can be delivered instantly across continents to various recipients.
Taking advantage of various virtual platforms, different congregations located in different parts of the globe can participate in the same service in real time. This has broadened the reach, scope and spread of of the message. Hard-to-reach locations can easily be reached, and the demand on human resources has been minimized. The message remains unchangeable. But the messengers may be adaptable to suit the times.
QUOTE: The message remains unchangeable.
CHALLENGE: Use the social media to preach.
PRAYER: Help me, Oh God, to use modern technology to preach.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
