Topic: Victory In Life’s Battles

Text: 1 Kings 20:21-28

21And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

22And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

23And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

24And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

25And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.

26And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.

27And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.

28And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

Key Verse: “And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.” 1 Kings 20:22

Message

A long time ago, a border community in a country was frequently attacked by a gang of dangerous trans-border robbers. The situation was so bad that it took a combined security force of army and police to drive the gang away and restore peace to the community. The peace was short-lived, as the robbers returned as soon as the security officers left. The community then begged thegovernment to keep the security men with them till they were certain there would be no further attacks.

The enemy of our soul is fighting Christians in order to prevent them from entering the heavenly home that God has promised them. He will continue to fight with Jesus’ friends until he is finally defeated by Christ at His return. While on earth serving Jesus, believers are daily involved in battles against sin, self, the world and Satan. However, Christ has promised believers victory in every battle.

We must be ready to confront the enemy of our souls whenever he appears. To overcome in the battles, we must rely on God’s word, His promises, His name and the shed blood of Jesus. Don’t give up because “a quitter never wins, and a winner never quits.”

Prayer for today: Please Lord, assist me in overcoming all of the enemies fighting against my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
