BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 15:11-16
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
KEY VERSE: “And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living” (Luke 15:13).
MESSAGE:
There is a popular saying which goes thus: “Waste not and want not.” Wastage is not a good practice. It is an act of wasting God’s resources and the efforts of the producers of such items, be it food or any other material. Out of greed, some children can ask for food they cannot finish, and then throw the remaining away. Some people are poor mostly because they are wasteful. They waste time, ideas, opportunities, talents, money and many other valuable things.
Jesus, our Lord and the Creator of all things, knew no lack. Yet, after feeding the multitude, commanded that the remaining food should be gathered together. He knew that there will be need for such at some other time. Jesus does not want us to waste resources. Think about it for a moment. Many children and families are homeless and hungry, not knowing where and when they will get the next meal. Sharing your leftover with such children will make them to bless you.
Do not waste food, share with those who are hungry. Do not waste or spoil your clothes that you have outgrown, give it out to the naked. Do not tear your textbooks, you can give them to others who need them. Nothing must be wasted either at school, home, church or in the community. Take care of your properties, and God will bless you.
PRAYER: Lord, make me a builder and not a waster.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
