DCLM Higher Everyday 26 June 2024 — Watch And Pray
DCLM Higher Everyday 26 June 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Watch And Pray
Topic: Watch And Pray
Text: Matthew 26:40-43
40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
42He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
Key Verse: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).
Message
When Nehemiah and his team went to rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem that were burnt and broken down they had enemies to contend with. They were Sambalant and his gang. Nehemiah and the Israelites had to pray, watch and work (Nehemiah 4:6-9). To “Watch” means to be alert, to pay attention, to stand firm. “To pray” means to talk to and hear from God. What is it that we are watching for? What is it that we are praying for? Many people watch but they don’t pray. And some pray without watching. Both must be applied for constant victory.
Watch against the influence of your peers who indulge in drug abuse such as cocaine, Heroin, Methadone, Fentanyl, Marijuana, Morphine and Hallucinogens, such as LSD. The drugs are addictive and can negatively impact your body and mind, and gradually ruin your health, education and career. On this International Day against Drug Abuse, pray for the around 275 million people who used drugs globally between 2020 and 2021, according to UNODC report. They are bound by the enemy of our souls – Satan.
Quote: Some pray without watching
Challenge: Trust in God while watching and praying.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to be on guard against the enemy’s attacks.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
