DCLM Sincere Milk  26 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiWho Is Greater?

Topic: Who Is Greater?

Text: Matthew 18:1-4

1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Key Verse: “At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Matthew 18:1

Message

Who is greater ? You, your brother, sister, friend or classmates? Children are in the habit of comparing things: mommy and daddy, auntie and uncle, headmaster and headmistress. Who is stronger? Who is taller? Who is richer? Who teaches better? and so on and so forth. But, before God the greatest may be the smallest and the weakest may be the strongest. Jesus taught His disciples the lesson we must learn.

The Disciples of Christ were interested in position. Maybe, the disciples felt Peter was quickly taking the first position. That was not the concern of Jesus. He never sets any one of them over the others. They were all important in the work of the Kingdom. What was needed was therefore a converted, righteous, humble, gentle and obedient spirit. It is not our position that God uses, it is our godly character. Stop desiring position, rather desire and have a humble, Christ-like character and Jesus will make you the greatest.

Prayer for today: I pray, Lord, that You bless me with a Christ-like and humble lifestyle everywhere I go.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
