DCLM Sincere Milk 19 July 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Who Is Your Master?
Topic: Who Is Your Master?
Text: Luke 16:11-13
12And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
13No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Key Verse: “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Luke 16:13
Message
Slavery is a condition in which one human being is owned by another. During the slave trade, a slave was considered by law as a property and was deprived of most of the rights that other people are entitled to. A slave has a master who bought him like a piece of furniture and could sell or even kill him without being asked any question. The slave owes the master unquestionable obedience. Jesus taught those who came to Him and claim to be His followers, yet were loyal to the religious leaders of that time, that it was not possible for them to serve God and their religious masters.
Do you have a master? One that you submit to and obey? It could even be your friend who influences what you do or the things of this world that are calling for your attention (worldly games, bad associations). It is not possible to submit to ungodly counsel from friends, teachers, neighbours and the people of the world and still claim to be a child of God. God desires that you surrender your whole life to Him. Repent and turn away from your sins, forsake your old master and turn to Jesus. Ask Him to be your personal Saviour and Lord. Allow Him to reign in your heart as your Master, you will never remain the same.

Prayer for today: I am Your servant Lord, help me to serve You always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
