Text: 1 Samuel 16: 15-23
15And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
16Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
17And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.
18Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.
19Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.
20And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
21And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
22And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
23And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
Key Verse: “Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war…the LORD is with him” (1 Samuel 16: 18).
Message
A person who distinguishes himself in a particular art or skill is always sought after, especially if he is a faithful child of God. Hence, Martin Luther King Jr. comments: “If a man is called to be street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music; or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets, so well that all the host of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” David was diligent in the little corner where he laboured as a shepherd boy. He exhibited excellence in all his endeavours.
Dear friend, in contemporary times, men and women are still sought after to fill certain key positions in organizations and governments of nations. The requisite qualities that make people outstanding and therefore sought after include: intelligence, diligence, creativity, integrity, moral uprightness and dedication to duty. Experience is another useful quality. Humbly work under leaders who will mentor you to acquire experience required elsewhere. In Christian ministry, gifted and consecrated youths are also needed for fruitful service. Prepare for the call to serve.

Prayer for today: Prepare me, oh God, for usefulness.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
