Topic: Your Needs, Your Wants

Text: 1 John 5:13-15

13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Key Verse: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” 1 John 5:14

Message

Thomas was getting ready to go back to his prestigious boarding school after a long vacation. Excited, he handed his dad a long list of things he thought he needed -gadgets, sneakers, and more. His dad, wise as he was, carefully looked through the list. While Thomas stood expectantly, his father smiled and suggested, “Let’s go over this together.” Seated together, they carefully examined each item.

Thomas’s father asked, “Do you truly require this?” referring to a gaming pack, and “Is this essential for school?” regarding the expensive sneakers. With each question, Thomas realized he didn’t need everything he thought he wrote on the list. They focused on essentials like books and pens. His dad said, “It is not about having it all, but having what truly matters.”

Thomas learned that just as his dad helped him, God guides us to know what really matters. As believers, we should confidently pray according to God’s will, knowing that our requests will be answered. We should be happy with what God gives us, placing spiritual things above material things, and trusting that God will meet our needs as we seek His kingdom first. Following God’s plan brings true happiness.

Prayer for today: I pray Oh God that You help me seek the most important things.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
