TOPIC: SUPPLICANT’S SETBACK

TEXT: MARK 11:22-26

22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

MEMORY VERSE: “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses” (MARK 11:25).

MESSAGE:

The Almighty God has promised to answer our prayers because He is a merciful and faithful Creator. He declared, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him…” (Psalm 91:15). The believer who humbly and sincerely prays to God will have his or her petition granted – that is the supplicant. Sin or iniquity, however, hinders answers to the prayers of the supplicant (Psalm 66:18).

Our text states that when we fail to forgive our offenders, God too will not forgive us our sins when we pray. This is the setback. Remember that Job had to pray for his three offending friends before God blessed him, giving him twice as much as he had before his afflictions (Job 42:10).

Beloved, are there people in your life who offended you that you cannot forgive? Unforgiving proves that you are not like Jesus Christ, who forgave even those who crucified Him. School mates, neighbours, family and Church members may be among your offenders that you are keeping malice with. Why not forgive them and gain God’s forgiveness? However, ensure that you are saved.

QUOTE: Why not forgive?

CHALLENGE: Iniquity always renders the request impotent.

PRAYER: Lord, purge and free me from sin.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
