TOPIC: AVOID FOOLISH QUESTIONS

BIBLE TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 2:22-26

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

KEY VERSE: “But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes” (2 Timothy 2:23).

MESSAGE:

Clement was used to asking endless and meaningless questions from his parents and teachers; questions like why is the sky blue and not white? Why do humans have two legs and not four, and many others were frequently coming from Clement. His parents often got fed up with his unnecessary questions. It is good to ask questions on important matters that you do not understand. There should always be a good purpose for asking any question. If you are in the habit of asking useless questions, it may result in arguments, confusion and avoidable quarrels. The word of God is true and perfect. It contains God’s instructions to us on how to live our lives to please Him here on earth and also to live with Him in heaven.

A man of God described the Bible as “B – Basic I – Instructions B – Bringing L – Life E – Eternal”. This is true because the word of God is able to convert the greatest sinner and make him a candidate of heaven. Children must avoid unnecessary questions especially as it concerns the word of God. Do not twist the Bible to suit your selfish and sinful interest. Do not argue against the word of God. Your attitude to the word of God is to read, study, believe, meditate on it, and obey every instruction therein. Doing otherwise is unprofitable and dangerous.

PRAYER: My Saviour and my Lord, help me to believe the whole word of God, so that I can enjoy the blessings therein.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
