DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 24 DECEMBER 2021 — Victory in caring
DCLM Higher Everyday 24 DECEMBER 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Victory in caring
TOPIC: VICTORY IN CARING
BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 10:25-37
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
MEMORY VERSE: “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him” (LUKE 10:33).
MESSAGE
It was a Special Olympics where handicapped children competed with tremendous dedication and enthusiasm. In a 220-yard dash event, contestants lined up at the starting line, and at the blast of the whistle, started running as fast as they could. Andrew quickly took the lead, and was soon about 50 yards ahead of everybody else. As he approached the final turn, he looked back and saw that his best friend had fallen and hurt himself on the track. Andrew stopped and looked at the finish line. People were hollering, “Run, Andrew, run.” But he did not. Rather, he went back, helped his friend up, brushed off the dust from his body, and, hand-in-hand, they crossed the finish line dead last. But as they did, the spectators cheered, because there are some things more important than winning.

As a child of God, your goal should be to develop both winning and caring attitudes, because if you care for others, you win. Do not let an opportunity to help pass you by, no matter the urgency before you. Be like the Samaritan in our text.
QUOTE: If you care for others, you win.
CHALLENGE: Do not let an opportunity to help pass you by.
PRAYER: Help me Lord to have a caring spirit.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
